Funeral services for Charles Donald Crowder, 81, of Sheridan will be 2 p.m. Monday at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D. Arrangements are with Kane Funeral Home.
Mr. Crowder died Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Sheridan VA Medical Center. He was born Jan. 17, 1924, in Kansas City, Mo., to Charles and Alice (Stratton) Crowder.
He joined the Army in 1945, serving in World War II.
He was honorably discharged in 1947 due to an injury. He was an Iron worker and English teacher.
He was known to correspond with Lynette “Squeeky” Fromme, a member of the Charles Manson family, as well as with Sara Jane Moore (who attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford), Patty Hearst and Jean Harris, convicted for the murder of author Dr. Herman Tawnower.

Mr. Crowder enjoyed playing the trumpet and drums and followed the jazz circuit in Cody, where he was nicknamed “Charlie on the moped” because he rode around town on one of the vehicles.
